The Johnston Memorial Library building is open to the VSU Community. Face masks and social distancing are required for students, faculty and staff.

The Circulation Department provides users with contact-free checkout of materials. Users who are unable to be present on campus are encouraged to use the online service tools such as refdesk@vsu.edu, Ask-A-Librarian,  and phone requests (804.524.5582) to communicate with librarians and receive assistance. Library instruction is available virtually by reservation only. Please contact Darnell Law at dlaw@vsu.edu or by phone (804.524.5536) to make a reservation.

Out of an abundance of caution, the individual study rooms, group study rooms, conference rooms, basement computer lab and library stacks are closed to users. Public computers are available on the first and second floors of the library by reservation only.

While the Lindsay-Montague Hall building remains closed, there is limited access to the Special Collections & Archives’ materials and collections. Access is restricted to VSU students, faculty and staff by appointment only on Tuesdays from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM; and Thursdays from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM. Reference and research assistance is also available via the online service tools.
