Accounting Subject Guide

This subject guide covers accounting resources available at the Johnston Memorial Library, including full-text journals, magazine, and newspaper articles,  accounting websites, and printed materials in the Reference Collection. This is not a comprehensive subject guide, but rather a selective list of materials that are most useful for locating information in this field. Library location and call  number are provided for print publications.


Full-Text Databases

  • ABI/INFORM
    Provides access to selected full-text  journal articles. Covers nearly every aspect of business, including company histories and new product development.

  • Business and Company Resource Center
    Includes company profiles and histories, industry rankings, company performance ratings, investment reports, financial ratios, and much more.
  • CCH Tax Internet Network
    Contains Federal and State Tax materials, including Standard Federal Income Tax Report and State Tax Review.

  • Engineering Village 2
    Provides access to bibliographic citations covering literature in engineering and technology. Includes EiCompendex, U.S. patents, and industry specifications and standards.


  • Factiva (fomerly Dow Jones Interative)
    Provides financial, historical, and product information for publicly traded companies worldwide, full-text magazine and journal articles, and current and historical stock quotes.

  • InfoTrac OneFile
    A one-stop source for news and periodical articles on a wide range of topics: business, computers, current events, economics, education, environmental issues, health care, hobbies, humanities, law, literature and art, politics, science, social science, sports, technology, and many general interest topics.
  • Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe 
    Provides access to a wide range of domestic and international news, business, and legal information sources, including legislative, government, company, financial and demographic information, market research, and industry reports.
     
  • Standard and Poor's Net Advantage
    Provides full-text access to the Bond Guide, Corporation Records, Dividend Record, Earnings Guide, Industry Surveys, Mutual Fund Reports, The OUTLOOK, the Register of Corporations, Directors and Executives, Security Dealers of North America, the Stock Guide, and Stock Reports.

  • Thomson Research
    Contains information from SEC filings and corporate annual reports. Includes financial and management information for more than 12,000 public companies trading on major U.S. exchanges.

Journal Indexes and Abstracts
  • PAIS International
    Contains abstracts of journal articles, books, statistical yearbooks, directories, conference proceedings, research reports and government documents. Topics covered include economic, political and social issues, business, finance, law, international trade and relations, public administration, and much more.

Ratio Sources
  • Almanac of Business and Industrial Financial Ratios
    Data is derived from tax returns of all active corporations filed with the Internal Revenue Service. Only corporations are included in the set. Each industry has two tables, one for all companies regardless of net income and another for  corporations with net income.

  • Industry Norms and Key Business Ratios 
    Contains general norms and ratios for 800 industries identified by a 4 digit SIC code. Data from both private and public financial records.

  • RMA Annual Statement Studies
    Gives industry ratios for liquidity, debt service, leverage, operating, & specific expanse to sales. Includes           comparative historical data.

  • Statistical Universe 
    Allows users to search American Statistical Index, the latest edition of Statistical Abstracts of the United States, the Statistical Research Index, and Index to International Statistics. Includes full text of selected U.S. federal and state documents.
