University Library Departments
The Library processes, houses, and maintains print, microform, and electronic serials, including newspapers, journals, and magazines.
ARRANGEMENT OF JOURNALS AND MAGAZINES
Current serials are arranged alphabetically by title and located on the first floor of the library, near the Reference Desk. Serials do not circulate outside the library. Special consideration is made to faculty on a title-by-title basis for short periods of time.
Newspapers are located in the Circulation Department and do not circulate outside the library. Students, faculty, and staff of Virginia State University must present a valid I.D. card or current driver’s license to use newspapers. Visitors must present a current driver’s license or military I.D.
LOCATION OF BOUND SERIALS
All bound serials are housed in the Library Annex and are accessible only to library employees. Titles may be requested at the Circulation Desk or Reference Desk. Items will be obtained by a staff member, and must be used inside the library.
There are several microform scanners and printers on the first floor of the library, near the Reference Desk. All microform printers use the VSU One Card to make copies and are ten cents ($.10) per page.
LOCATING SERIAL HOLDINGS
Most serials owned by the library are listed in TROY (Library Catalog) the library’s on-line catalog. The VSU Journal Locator, on the library’s home page, identifies electronic journals available to students, faculty and staff.
For help in locating serials please contact the Reference desk at 524-5582. Some web sites may allow only library staff to access.
