The library renovation was completed in mid December 2004 and library operations moved into the facility in late December and early January. As you walk across campus, the changes made to the exterior of the building are evident. The distinctive shapes that frame the Atrium are carried throughout the building. The louvers that once protected the interior from harsh sunlight are gone, replaced with energy efficient windows. The rich wood tones in the building make it a pleasant and inviting place for students and the University community.
Today’s libraries are virtual and driven by computing technology. The Johnston Memorial Library features group conference rooms with video walls hosting Internet, word processing, spreadsheet, video and other resources. A 24-hour computer lab, study room and CyberCafé are part of the design in the basement level. Many other state of the art enhancements will be unveiled in the near future.
